Centre Nature du Vallon de l'Allondon, Dardagny, Switzerland
4.6 kilometres. 4.6 billion years. One step at a time.
The Deep Time Walk, developed by Stephan Harding and Sergio Maraschin, is a walk through the whole story of our beautiful planet. Each metre we walk represents one million years. We walk from the Earth’s tumultuous beginnings, through the first stirrings of life, the many great extinctions, sensing into the ever-present pulse of life, to the present day.
Yes, there is a lot of information shared, but the hope is that the Deep Time Walk generates a shift in perspective. By the end of our time together, our sense of self might loosen just a little, and our place during this extraordinary time on our planet will simultaneously feel both more precious and expansive.
We walk in two language groups – one English, one French – along the same route, a short distance apart. If you come with friends who prefer the other language, you can each join the group that suits you and still share the experience. We gather together at the start and again at the end.
A gentle pace
Around four hours including pauses, on easy paths through the Allondon valley. No fitness required beyond a comfortable walk.
What to bring
Walking shoes, layers for the weather, water and a snack. Curiosity is the only essential.
Who it’s for
Anyone who wants to feel our place in the story of the Earth – leaders, teams, families, friends. Children from age fifteen are welcome.
What shifts when we remember just how young we are, relative to our planet Earth?
Come and walk the question with us.
Full details and registration open in a new tab. Places are limited so that the groups stay small.
